Meet Cindia Norton

Teaching has always been central to Cindia Norton’s life. She began leading exercise classes during her freshman year of college and continued expanding her experience through group fitness, Pilates training, and yoga.

Over time, yoga became much more than a physical practice. It helped Cindia find greater clarity and focus while balancing a full life as a schoolteacher, wife, and mother of four boys. As she completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training, she began to see how she could bring together her love of teaching, wellness, and community in a studio of her own.

Studio 143 opened its doors in 2014. Building the studio while teaching full time and raising a family was both exciting and demanding, but Cindia remained guided by a clear vision: to create an approachable space where people could care for themselves, learn from experienced instructors, and feel genuinely welcomed.

Her background as both an educator and longtime fitness instructor continues to shape Studio 143 today. Classes are thoughtfully taught, encouragement is personal, and there is always room to learn something new.

A name with Scituate roots

The name Studio 143 carries a special meaning.

Cindia has lived in Scituate her entire life, and her family has called the town home for generations. The number 143 represents the words “I love you” and is famously connected to the flashing signal of Minot’s Ledge Light off the Scituate and Cohasset coastline: one flash, four flashes, three flashes.

The number also has a personal family connection. It appeared on a license plate passed down to Cindia from her great-aunt Anne Merritt.

Studio 143 is therefore more than a business name. It reflects love, family, home, and a lasting connection to the coastal community that helped shape the studio.

More Than a Fitness Studio

Studio 143 may be a small studio, but the community within it is wonderfully expansive. Women, men, teens, and children are all welcomed into a setting that feels personal, approachable, and full of possibility.

The studio’s wide-ranging schedule makes it possible for families, friends, longtime students, and first-time visitors to each find something that feels right for them. Some come to feel stronger or more energized. Others are looking for calm, connection, or a new challenge. Many discover more than they expected: familiar faces, encouraging instructors, and a place they genuinely look forward to returning to.

A talented team of instructors supports that sense of belonging. Each brings a distinct background, teaching style, and area of expertise, giving students access to an impressive depth of experience while preserving the warmth of a neighborhood studio.
